Colonial Comparisons
Massachusetts:
Government: Massachusetts Bay Colony had a government that was interwoven with their church in every aspect while Pennsylvania had a almost complete self government governed by their frame.
Religion: Massachusetts was probably the most strict on religious tolerance as Puritans. Pennsylvania had a perfect religious tolerance harmony with Quakers, Jews, Anglicans, Catholics etc.
Economy: Massachusetts has too rocky soil for farming and short growing seasons. But they exported ships and lumber and fur. However, Pennsylvania was known as one of the "breadbasket" colonies with perfect soil for farming. Their iron industry and textile mills were popular added to their good shipbuilding and forests used for timber.
Education: Massachusetts did put some effort into their education only, however, to be able to read the Bible. Pennsylvania had colonial school and a non-denominational college (the first) for everyday, practical learning that was available to all religions of all social classes.

South Carolina:
Government: South Carolina was a Royal Colony that was ruled by governors chosen in Great Britain.
Religion: Most residents of South Carolina belonged to the Church of England or were Protestants.
Economy: South Carolina had several tidewater plantations which include almost 20-100 slaves and had high social class standards. The plantations grew several agricultural crops such as tobacco.
Education: Because of high standing social classes in South Carolina, not everybody was able to learn. Slaves and lower class men hardly knew how to read or write if at all. Because of all the work needed in plantations, schooling was not important to this colony and only the very rich could afford tutors or schools in England.
