English Quakers were the majority but there was also a big population of Anglican English. Thousands of Germans lived in Pennsylvania; making up ⅓ of the population by the American Revolution. Their skill and industry transformed the colony into a rich farming country- adding to the prosperity. There was a also a huge Irish-Scottish population because of several hardships in Ireland. Dutch, Swedish, French and Jewish settlers all contributed to the growth of Pennsylvania and the open-mindedness of the colony.
Relationship with Native Americans:
William Penn was a fair and just man that bought many of his lands fairly from the Native Americans. William Penn extended a policy which allowed equal rights and privileges to the Native Tribes. With his kindness, he attempted to understand the natives and learn their language. Because of all this, William Penn faced very little resistance during his colonization. |
